Sunderland manager Mick McCarthy has confirmed Torpedo Moscow's Estonian international striker Andres Oper will have a trial at the club this week.
Black Cats' goalkeeping coach Tim Carter also works with the Estonian team and has observed him close-up.
"I know Andres through Tim Carter. Yes, I have made an enquiry about him," McCarthy told the club website.
"He's available and he's one I'm having a look at, I'm more than happy to do so," he added.
Another option is another Russian league player, Jamaican striker Damani Ralph, who is currently playing for Rubin Kazan having moved from American club Chicago Fire in March.
"He was put to me by an agent and I'm having a look. That's as far as it has gone," said McCarthy.
"We can't go and watch everyone so if they can come here and train with us for a week then it makes life easier."
