Sunderland full-back Stephen Wright is aiming to return from a calf strain on Saturday after four months out.
"Charlton is the target but you have to be sensible about these things," the 25-year-old told the Evening Chronicle.
"I have only just started back in full training so, realistically, I'll not be able to assess exactly what my chances are until the end of the week.
"If there's a hint there might be a problem I'll take a step back and make sure I'm 100% for the Bolton game."
The former-Liverpool defender sustained an ankle ligament injury in Sunderland's defeat to the Addicks in August.
He was initially hoping to return a fortnight ago against Birmingham but injured his calf in training ahead of the match.
"It is the longest I have ever been out with injury and it has felt a lot longer than four months," he added.
"I just cannot wait to get back and try to do my bit to help the club.
"It has been a dreadful run for the team but hopefully injured players coming back will help boost the confidence levels in the team and that will help us start to pick up points."
