Newcastle defender Stephen Caldwell is set to join local rivals Sunderland.
Caldwell could not halt Leeds' slide
The Scottish international, 23, is out of contract at St James' Park and after signing a pre-contract agreement will join Sunderland at the end of June.
During last season Caldwell went on loan to Leeds, scoring one goal during 13 games with the relegated club.
When Caldwell completes his move he will become the first player to cross the Tyne-Wear divide since midfielder Lee Clark moved to Sunderland in 1997.
