Sunderland have parted company with Dutch defender Baki Mercimek as the club continue to trim their wage bill.
Manager Mick McCarthy agreed an early settlement with the player, once dubbed the new Jaap Stam, whose contract was due to expire next summer.
The 20-year-old was one of several promising youngsters recruited by former
boss Peter Reid.
But he never broke into the first-team reckoning and has become
the latest victim of McCarthy's cull as he attempts to rationalise his squad for
next season's Division One campaign.
