Flo joins Sunderland
![]() Tore Andre Flo has had a difficult time in Glasgow
Striker Tore Andre Flo has completed his move from Glasgow Rangers to Sunderland in a deal worth £6.75m.
The 29-year old striker underwent a medical on Friday at the Stadium of Light.
Personal terms were agreed and the deal has been completed ahead of the 31 August transfer deadline. Sunderland have also sealed the signing of 29-year old Ipswich Town frontman Marcus Stewart.
Manager Peter Reid was delighted his search for a new strike partner for Kevin Phillips had finally come to a successful conclusion. He said: "Tore has many qualities I look for in a striker. "He has the ability to create chances, is good in the air and has excellent finishing skills." Rangers manager Alex McLeish told the official Rangers website: "I would like to thank Tore for all his efforts for Rangers and to wish him well for the future."
Criticism Leeds United's Robbie Keane turned down a move to Sunderland in the close season and Espanyol's Raul Tamudo was another reported target. But after protracted negotiations, Flo will be the man to partner Kevin Phillips this season. The £6.75m fee represents a significant loss for Rangers who paid £12m for the Norwegian striker less than two years ago. Flo's record of more than a goal every two games was impressive but his failure to score consistently against Celtic and in European ties earned him criticism. While the Norwegian always stressed he was happy at Ibrox, he struggled to live up to the record transfer fee. Rangers may use some of the cash from the sale of Flo to make a move of their own in the transfer market ahead of the deadline. Hibs' young striker Garry O'Connor has been linked with a move to Glasgow and a bid in the region of £1.5m ought to be enough to convince Hibs to sell.
