Ferguson quits as Stranraer boss

Stranraer have parted company with manager Derek Ferguson following the 8-2 home defeat by Stirling Albion.

"Following today's disastrous result Stranraer manager Derek Ferguson has left the club by mutual consent," read a statement on the club's website.

Stranraer are bottom of the Second Division, seven points adrift of Arbroath, who have played a game more.

Ferguson's departure comes less than a year after he took charge of the Stair Park club.

After a brief spell as player-manager of the now defunct Clydebank, former Rangers, Hearts and Falkirk midfielder Ferguson took over as caretaker boss at Stranraer in February 2008.

He was then given the job on a permanent basis.

The Clayholers lost in last season's play-off final against Arbroath but were allowed to retain their Second Division status following the demise of Gretna.

This season, Stranraer have recorded only two league wins.

Before Saturday's defeat, chairman Nigel Redhead said Stranraer had only a 50/50 chance of staying in business until the end of the season with the club about 250,000 in debt.
