Rory Delap proud of Stoke City improvement

Rory Delap believes Stoke City have made great strides in their second season in the Premier League.

The Potters ended the campaign in 11th position, improving their performance from the previous season by one place and two points.

Midfielder Delap told BBC Radio Stoke: "That's what we were looking for and that's what we've done.

"If you look back, it could have been a lot better. But I suppose everyone will look at their season like that."

Delap has said the team are looking forward to a period of rest before returning to training in July.

"It's going to be another tough pre-season, there's going to be no surprises there," added the 33-year-old. "The manager knows what he wants from us and we've got to come back in decent shape.

"When I was 20 years old it was hard enough, but no matter how old you are or what position you play.

"You know you've got to fight for your place and there are going to be times when you're in and out of the team. If it wasn't like that, it wouldn't be right."

Delap featured in all but two of Stoke's Premier League matches, starting 34 times and coming on as a substitute on a further two occasions.
