Pulis understands Tuncay reaction

Tuncay signed for 5m from Middlesbrough in August

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis admitted he was not surprised by Tuncay's reaction at being substituted in the 2-1 defeat at Hull.

The Turkish striker, who had replaced Ricardo Fuller on 81 minutes, was taken off by Pulis after skipper Abdoulaye Faye was sent off for two bookings.

"As soon as we went down to 10 men, we had to bring a defender on," the Potters' boss told BBC Radio Stoke.

"I don't think I have to explain the decision to him. He's disappointed."

Pulis added: "If I'd have brought Dave Kitson off, Dave would have been disappointed. But one of them had to go."

Tuncay had to be calmed down by his team-mates and stormed straight down the tunnel after being called off.

He has yet to start a Premier League game for Stoke since joining the club from Middlesbrough for £5m in August.

Pulis also disputed the decisions that led to Faye's red card on 87 minutes.

"I've watched them back and I'm desperately disappointed with the two decisions," he said.

"In the first one, he books Abby and does nothing for (Nick) Barmby, and Barmby's actually pushed him in the face.

"The second one, he doesn't touch the player. We can't appeal because it's two yellows, so we'll take it on the chin, but I don't want to make excuses."

The Senegal international defender will now miss the home game with Portsmouth on 22 November through suspension.

The Potters would have moved up to seventh in the Premier League with victory at the KC Stadium, but were denied a point by a late strike from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.
