Lawrence doubtful for Spurs clash

Stoke City midfielder Liam Lawrence has said he is unlikely to be fit for next Sunday's Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

Lawrence injured his ankle tripping over his pet Labrador last month and underwent further scans on Thursday.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "It's a matter of working hard with the physio but it's taking it's time to heal.

"I'm trying to be ready for Spurs but that's not looking likely because I'm still struggling to walk."

The injury cost the 26-year-old his place in the Republic of Ireland squad for the friendly with Nottingham Forest and he is frustrated to be on the sidelines.

"It's doing my head in to be honest," said Lawrence.

"I just want to be back training and back in contention for a place in the team because we need to be picking up points."

The Potters have taken just four points from their opening seven Premier League games, but Lawrence said he and the rest of the squad are remaining positive.

"We're still confident because we haven't got turned over by anyone," he said.

"We're working hard with the manager because the game against Tottenham is massive and we need to get something from it."
