Stoke sign Magpies defender Faye

Stoke City have signed Senegalese international defender Abdoulaye Faye from Newcastle for a fee of 2.25m.

The 30-year-old defender has signed a three-year deal with Stoke on the eve of the Premier League season.

"Abdoulaye is a fantastic player with top-flight experience in abundance," said Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes. "We're absolutely delighted."

Last season Faye, who is Stoke's fifth capture of the close season, played 22 games for Newcastle, scoring one goal.

Former Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce signed Faye for the Magpies in August 2007, after he brought him to Bolton from Lens during the 2006-6 season when he was manager of the Trotters.

Earlier on Friday, Stoke completed the signing of Charlton midfielder Amdy Faye, 31, for an undisclosed fee on a 12-month deal.
