Stoke defender Gerry Taggart suffered an ankle injury in Thursday's 2-0 pre-season friendly defeat by Roma.
Taggart joined the Potters from Leicester in February
The former Northern Ireland international collided with Italian midfielder Damiano Tommasi, and will now be assessed by club doctors.
Director of football John Rudge told BBC Radio Stoke: "It was an accident, but Gerry was in some pain. We probably need to have the injury scanned."
Taggart, 33, is yet to agree a contract with the Potters for next season.
Having spent two months on loan at the Britannia Stadium from Leicester, he joined Stoke on a free transfer in February and has made 21 appearances for them.
His injury means that Clint Hill is likely to take his place for Sunday's friendly against Levski Sofia.
