Potters' Hoekstra blow
An ankle injury has ruled Peter Hoekstra out of Stoke's FA Cup second round replay against Halifax on Wednesday.

The Dutchman limped off after a heavy challenge in the 1-1 draw at The Shay on Saturday.

It was initially feared the midfielder had broken his left ankle, but x-rays revealed no serious damage.

"He's walking on the ankle again already, but he won't be fit for Wednesday," physio Stefan Stefansson told the club's official website.

Premiership challenge

"He has got a chance, though, of being fit to face Wycombe on Saturday."

A victory at the Britannia Stadium on Wednesday will seal Stoke a lucrative third round home tie against Everton on 5 January.

"That's pretty much the best draw you can get - Premiership opposition at home," said manager Gudjon Thordarson.

"We can't get carried away thinking about that though because we've still got to get past Halifax and, as they proved in the second-half on Saturday, they are not going to make it easy for us."
