Paul Simpson demands more from Stockport County players

Stockport County manager Paul Simpson has demanded an improvement from his players following recent results.

The 44-year-old has seen his side suffer two 5-0 defeats in five matches, leaving the Hatters sitting just three points above the relegation zone.

He told BBC Radio Manchester: "The thing that players have got to realise is we are talking about their careers.

"Supporters paying hard earned money to come and support the team want to see somebody put a good shift in."

Simpson took over at County in the summer following the takeover by the 2015 consortium.

Finances remain tight at Edgeley Park, with the club having spent the whole of last season in administration, but Simpson wants more from the players currently at the club.

"You need to be a strong personality, a strong character to be able to deal with the run of results we've had and the situation we're in, " he added.

"Unfortunately in football you have to grow up very quickly and the thing that I've said to the players is it's a wonderful game to be involved in but you have be right every single day.

"You have to live your life properly, train properly, play properly and the rewards will come to you."
