Stockport County move closer to survival

Stockport County

Stockport County have moved a step closer to ensuring survival after the Football League approved the 2015 consortium takeover bid.

Club officials are confident the Hatters could be out of administration within a fortnight.

Consortium spokesman Sean Connelly told BBC Radio Manchester: "Things are looking up financially an awful lot more than they were 12 months ago.

"It really is the end of a long journey for Stockport County and the fans."

He added: "What we're about at this time is introducing stability.

"We'll be very competitive next year, believe me, we will.

"We're just about there. It's the biggest light at the end of the tunnel we've had for a long time and believe me it's not a train coming the other way.

"What I'm saying to most fans, and I've spoken to dozens of them, is get your champagne and put it in the fridge and get it ready.

"We've a big job, a hell of a job to do in the coming year and I'm certain the fans are up for it.

"Over the next couple of days and weeks, fans will be hearing about these things and they'll be asking to be getting involved in these things.

"Some time towards the end of the month or early next month, we'll be having an open day for fans.

"If you know the County fans, they'll all be coming along to have a celebratory day with lots of news announcements about where we're going."
