Boss Jim Gannon has highlighted three young midfielders after their roles in Stockport's 2-1 win against Hartlepool.

Gannon told BBC Radio Manchester: "Matty Mainwaring, Greg Tansey and James Vincent are really just three fantastic players.

"They justified my faith in them - all three had an excellent game - and James has come up with a fantastic winner."

The victory left County just two points outside the League One play-off places with nine games left.

Vincent marked his full league debut by scoring the winning goal while Tansey also impressed in making his first start of the season.

Mainwaring, 18, Tansey, 20, and James Vincent, 19, all impressed the Edgeley Park boss.

Gannon added: "Matty - you'll not see a player who moves the ball so quickly; Greg has a great array of passing; and James is the all-round, complete, universal midfielder.

"We monitor these boys' progress. We've got a fantastic group of young players who are very dedicated professionals and work extremely hard. They're well supported by good staff who help them physically develop, technically develop and get there.

"These boys have been growing behind the scenes and they're ready and they're right to come into the team. They've justified our faith and they've justified their own faith in themselves."
