Hollins set for Stockport role
Former Chelsea manager John Hollins
Hollins could secure a deal at Edgeley Park
Struggling Stockport County are ready to turn to former Chelsea manager John Hollins to stop their freefall down the Nationwide League.

Hollins assisted under-pressure County boss Carlton Palmer during Saturday's creditable draw at promotion-chasing Bristol City.

And the 56-year-old former England international will be formally appointed onto the Edgeley Park coaching staff if he can agree a deal with the club's board.

"I've always respected his tactical skills and his thoughtful approach to the game.

"I hope to have him for the rest of the season and we can take it from there," Palmer told the Manchester Evening News.

Under Palmer, Stockport were relegated last season and after seven games without a win find themselves just a point and three places above the Division Two drop-zone.

Since replacing Andy Kilner in November, 2001, Palmer, who is working without a contract, has led County to just 16 wins in 65 games.

He now wants the experience of Hollins to help him out.

Three years ago Hollins led Swansea City to the Third Division Championship, although they were relegated the following season.

Last season he took Rochdale into the play-offs but could not agree a deal to stay on at Spotland
