Stockport linked to striker Taylor
Gareth Taylor
Manchester City's Gareth Taylor celebrates scoring
Stockport County have confirmed their interest in Manchester City striker Gareth Taylor.

The burly centre forward is out-of-favour at Maine Road and surplus to requirements.

But the 27-year-old has vast experience in the lower divisions and had success previously with Bristol Rovers, Crystal Palace and Sheffield United.

Taylor has also had loan spells at Port Vale and QPR.

With 1m in the Edgeley Park coffers from the sale of Ian Moore to Burnley, County boss Andy Kilner does have a limited amount to spend.

A spokesman for Stockport County said: "We are very interested in Gareth and believe he would be a great asset to our side."

Taylor is understood to be available for about 300,000.

He was signed by Joe Royle from Sheffield United for 400,000 in November 1998.
