St Mirren manager Danny Lennon has made his first signing with defender David van Zanten returning to the club for a second spell.

Van Zanten, 28, who was with the Buddies for five years from 2003, has signed a two-year deal with the Scottish Premier League outfit.

The defender was released by Hibs in January and joined Hamilton Accies as a free agent.

He made six appearances for the Accies under manager Billy Reid.

Dublin-born van Zanten was previously on the books at Celtic before signing for St Mirren in 2003.

He made more than 150 appearances during his first spell with the Buddies and joined Hibs in 2008.

Last season he struggled to establish himself in John Hughes's first team and made only one appearance.

The full-back moved to First Division outfit Morton on loan in November 2009, before joining Hamilton Accies in January after being released by Hibs.

Meanwhile, Lennon has told defender Chris Innes and midfielder Stephen O'Donnell they will have to find new clubs.

The pair are both out of contract and will not be offered new deals.

And BBC Scotland has learned that defender Jack Ross and striker Tom Brighton will also not be offered new contracts.

Lennon is currently talking to other players in his first-team squad who are out of contract.
