St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson said the defender had battled away with the injury recently.
"He has been playing for the last few weeks carrying an ankle injury but, ultimately, you can only do so much and we must give Jack a lot of credit for trying to play through it," MacPherson told the club website.
"But it became apparent during the Hearts game and in training in the build-up to the Falkirk game that it just wasn't going to be possible for him to continue.
"Jack will get a scan on his ankle in the early part of this week but we already know that his main rehab is just going to be rest."
Ross has been a first-team regular with the Buddies since signing from Scottish Premier League rivals Falkirk in August 2008.
The defender also spent spells at Clyde and Hartlepool.
