St Mirren defender Jack Ross has confirmed that he suffered ankle ligament damage during Wednesday's Scottish Cup defeat by Rangers.

Ross had a second scan on the injury on Thursday but is still not sure how long he faces on the sidelines.

An X-ray immediately after the 1-0 defeat at Ibrox revealed there was no bone damage to his lower leg.

Ross picked up the knock challenging for with Rangers' Kyle Lafferty but played on before being replaced.

St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson took plenty of positives from the defeat by Rangers in Glasgow.

''We've quickly got to move on from it, but we've learned a lot," he insisted.

"Conceding late goals has been a slight Achilles heel for us lately. But, when you're against top SPL sides, they sometimes have that extra physical presence and impact players who can come on and make a difference.

"The players have risen to the challenge of playing Rangers, now we face a trip to Kilmarnock, which won't be any easier.

''The new coaching staff at Kilmarnock have had a response and they are playing with the confidence that winning brings.''
