Gus MacPherson out to lift beaten St Mirren

St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson
MacPherson wants his side to stop letting leads slip

St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson believes he can lift his side for the Scottish Cup replay with Rangers after their 2-1 league defeat by Dundee Utd.

"It's another massive game on Wednesday," he said after the Buddies allowed their lead to slip.

"They know they have played well for long periods of the game, but they have nothing to show for it.

"We should have won, but we don't want sympathy. We need to learn from it and show we have strong characters."

The Paisley side took the lead through Michael Higdon, but late goals from Danny Swanson and David Goodwillie gave United the win against the run of play.

"We got the first goal and really should have seen the game out," said MacPherson.

"That's the really frustrating thing that we are getting into these winning positions and not learning from them.

"It was mistakes in key areas that led to United's goals."
