Brighton was carried off during first-half stoppage time
St Mirren forward Tom Brighton is out for the rest of the season because of the severe knee injury he sustained in Saturday's 3-3 draw against Motherwell.
The 25-year-old has suffered a complete disruption of the anterior cruciate and medial ligaments and will consult a surgeon in London later this week.
"It's a real blow for Tom because he's worked so hard in pre-season," manager Gus MacPherson told BBC Scotland.
"But he's a very positive character. He assured me he'll be back."
Brighton was stretchered off in first-half injury-time at St Mirren Park after a challenge by Motherwell defender Steven Saunders.
"My sympathies are with him and his family because he'll be really down at the moment," added MacPherson.
"He's a really good professional, and he'll get the best rehabilitation we can give him in order to give him the best chance to return to fitness."
The former Clyde forward moved to the Paisley side from Millwall in May 2008 but was restricted to just seven appearances last term, again through injury.
He was making his first start of this campaign on Saturday, having scored as a substitute in the 3-1 win away to Falkirk the week before.
