Saints shelve interest in Shimmin

St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson will not sign Dominic Shimmin after the former QPR defender's trial ended.

But MacPherson will have talks with a Spanish trialist who played in Saturday's 1-0 friendly win over Darlington over the next few days.

"I've not had a chance to speak to him yet, but we'll get that done over the next couple of days," MacPherson told his club website.

"As for Dominic Shimmin, we'll not be taking our interest in him further."

Shimmin, who began his career with Arsenal, spent three seasons with QPR but left in January after a loan spell with Bournemouth and signed for Crawley Town.

MacPherson had offered a contract after the 20-year-old, who played in friendlies against Dumbarton and Stirling Albion, impressed on trial.

It looks as if Craig's twisted his ankle and Andy's back has gone into a spasm

The Saints boss was waiting to hear back from the player's agent but has now dropped his interest in the defender, who had left Blue Square League outfit Crawley at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, St Mirren's victory over English side Darlington - through Billy Mehmet's strike - came at a cost, with MacPherson concerned over injuries picked up by striker Craig Dargo and midfielder Andy Dorman.

"They both picked up knocks, which is obviously something you don't want towards the end of pre-season," he said.

"It looks as if Craig's twisted his ankle and Andy's back has gone into a spasm, but it will be Monday or Tuesday before we get a clearer idea on the full extent of their injuries."
