MacPherson heartened despite loss

St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson
MacPherson sees positives in the defeat to Hearts

Gus MacPherson insisted he is happy with his team's showing despite losing 3-2 to Hearts at Tynecastle.

"We looked composed and in control of the game, and took a deserved lead," said the St Mirren manager.

"We gave a bad free-kick away that lead to their winner, but I've got to be pleased because of the way the players applied themselves.

"We've got to look forward and I thought that was a reasonably positive performance today."

And the St Mirren manager says his team is improving in the SPL.

"Last season was all about closing down the opposition, tackling and hard work to get the ball," he said.

"Now we're looking to play at tempo and get the ball down and pass it.

"We're also trying to get a different kind of player with added quality, to complement the nucleus of the current squad."
