Steven Anderson banned after missed booking

St Johnstone defender Steven Anderson
Anderson will be available for Saturday's match against Hibs

Steven Anderson has been issued with a one-match ban following his two bookings at Tannadice at the weekend.

The St Johnstone defender remained on the pitch after his second caution when referee Brian Winter forgot he had previously booked the player.

However, the Scottish Football Association's disciplinary committee has now punished the player.

With St Johnstone accepting the decision, Anderson will miss the trip to Inverness on 16 October.

Having already served a suspension this season, for a red card at Tynecastle on the opening day, Anderson also sits out the following match against Hamilton for passing a disciplinary points threshold.

The fact is he was booked and we have to accept it

St Johnstone manager Derek McInnes

Saints manager Derek McInnes said: "Once we heard that the committee were meeting, I felt the ban was inevitable and it was the outcome I was expecting.

"I think they feel that they have to be seen to do the right thing. The referee has deemed that Steven should receive two yellow cards and a one-match ban is the normal punishment for that.

"All I would add is that I didn't think Steven deserved to be booked twice. The first yellow card was very soft and I am far from convinced that there was contact with their player.

"However, the fact is he was booked and we have to accept it."

Winter, who will oversee the Second Division encounter between Ayr United and Livingston this weekend, is not the first Scottish official to make the embarrassing blunder.

Aberdeen midfielder Jim Bett was cautioned twice during a Scottish Premier League match with Rangers on 2 May, 1987.

Jim Duncan, of Gorebridge, was the referee that day and the player was subsequently served with a ban.
