St Johnstone borrow West Brom striker Marcus Haber

St Johnstone have taken striker Marcus Haber on a season-long loan from West Bromwich Albion.

The 21-year-old Canadian, who stands at 6ft, 3in, has yet to feature for the Baggies and spent time on loan at Exeter last season.

He has recently completed a two-month loan deal with Vancouver Whitecaps, the club he left in January for England.

Haber will make his Saints bow in Alan Main's testimonial match against a Manchester United XI on Saturday.

The forward will see out his contract in the Scottish Premier League, although West Brom have a one-year option on his deal.

"West Brom have high hopes for him but having stepped up a level into the Premiership they wanted him to go out on loan rather than be kicking his heels at The Hawthorns," manager Derek McInnes told the Saints' website.

"He is young, hungry, has real pace and he's keen to learn.

"The fact that he will fit the bill for the under 21 rule is also a factor."
