Saints snap up City boy
Russell failed to establish himself at Manchester City

St Johnstone have completed the signing of Craig Russell from Manchester City on a three-year deal.

The 26-year-old striker impressed while on loan at the Perth club last season, but a hamstring injury saw him return to City, where he played just one game.

Former Sunderland forward Russell is manager Sandy Clark's third capture of the close season, along with Tommy Lovenkrands and Paul Hartley.

He joins the Saints under freedom-of-contract.

Russell said: "I can't wait to get going. Other players think the close season is too short but I'm desperate to get back playing again to make up for lost time."
