Falkirk's Craig to stay a Saint

On-loan Liam Craig has shown his commitment to St Johnstone ahead of Sunday's Scottish Cup semi-final by agreeing a pre-contract deal.

The Perth outfit will now have to agree a compensation figure with Falkirk for the 21-year-old midfielder.

Striker Peter MacDonald and midfielder Martin Hardie have also penned two-year contract extensions.

Saints manager Derek McInnes said: "They are important players and all three had offers from SPL clubs."

In the case of Craig, one of those was present club Falkirk, who had signed the former Ipswich midfielder in 2006.

But he has instead agreed a three-year contract with St Johnstone.

"Liam had an offer to stay with Falkirk and interest from other clubs which would have been more lucrative," said McInnes, who will lead his First Division side out at Hampden against Rangers on Sunday.

"But he feels his footballing interest is best served by staying at McDiarmid Park and that speaks volumes for him.

"Fans will be aware how important Martin and Peaso have been to us in recent times and to have them pen two-year deals is a great boost as well."
