Russell leaves Saints
Injury-jinxed forward Craig Russell has left St Johnstone by mutual agreement.

The 28-year-old, originally from South Shields, has moved back to England, the Scottish First Division club announced on their website.

Russell had made only 20 starts since arriving in Perth from Manchester City in July 2000, scoring just three goals.

St Johnstone manager Billy Stark told his club's website: "Craig's family has already returned south and Craig was obviously keen to be with them.

"He has been extremely unlucky in his time with Saints, not having a chance to show what he can do because of the injuries he's suffered here.

"He felt he needed to put these problems behind him and make a fresh start and that's something we're in agreement with.

"We would like to wish him all the best for the future."

Russell began his career as a trainee with Sunderland and was sold to City for 1m in 1997.

He made infrequent starts with the Maine Road outfit and was loaned to Tranmere Rovers, Port Vale, Darlington and Oxford United before moving to Saints for free.
