Southend United pay outstanding tax bill

Southend United

Southend United say they have settled an outstanding payment with Her Majesty's Revenues & Customs.

The club were issued a winding-up petition last month after paying a bill, believed to be in the region of £20,000, "a few days late".

A club statement read: "Southend United can advise supporters that there are no outstanding amounts due to HMRC.

"Written confirmation has been received from HMRC confirming the petition will be withdrawn on 16 March."

It is the fourth time in the last 16 months the Shrimpers have fended off a winding-up bid.

Southend chief executive Tara Brady told BBC Essex in January that the club were losing £100,000 a month.
