Southend United manager Paul Sturrock has indicated he has not yet signed a contract with the Roots Hall club.

Sturrock agreed a three-year contract earlier this month - but has yet to finalise the deal.

However the Scot assured BBC Essex there were no serious issues. He said: "We'll sort it out, I've not got any problems about anything like that."

Southend remain under a transfer embargo, but Sturrock has agreed to sign eight players once it is lifted.

Sturrock added: "Me and the chairman will have a chat and we'll be seriously looking at trying to get the embargo off us."

Former Bristol Rovers keeper Rhys Evans, ex-Plymouth and Shrewsbury defender Graham Coughlan, and Louis Soares, previously of Aldershot, were among the trialists who played for the Blues in Monday's one-all draw with Derby.

The Southend boss was encouraged by the performance. He said: "There's a long, long way to go, these boys have just come together.

"But importantly they've shown an attitude and a will to learn and do the right things. Half of them don't know each other's names.

"You've got to give credit to some of these players who are committing themselves to Southend, even though their registrations are not going through until the embargo is finished."
