Southend United winding-up hearing moved

Southend United

A winding-up hearing against Southend United over a debt of £140,000 has been adjourned until 11 August.

Lawyers for Charterhouse Commercial Finance Plc asked the High Court to reschedule the hearing on Wednesday.

It was moved in light of an application by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs to put the club into administration which will be heard on 2 August.

HMRC have argued the club's history of defaulting on payments demonstrates it is insolvent.

But Southend say they have paid all their previous bills, albeit late, and have incoming funds to settle further debts.

The club, which has released numerous first-team players over the last four weeks, was also taken to the High Court in November, but escaped being placed into administration after paying HMRC £690,000.
