Sawyer's no-show "angered his team-mates and the management"
Southend United have dropped on-loan midfielder Lee Sawyer for the League One game with Carlisle after he failed to attend a pre-match team meeting.
The 20-year-old Chelsea player has made nine appearances for United this season, although eight of them have been from the bench.
A club statement read: "Lee was sent home from training on Thursday for another breach of club discipline.
"The club will make no further comment on this matter at this time."
The move increases their selection problems, with Damian Scannell, Jean-Yves Mvoto and Osei Sankofa all out and Southend may only be able to name three substitutes.
