Southend have completed the signing of veteran Crystal Palace striker Dougie Freedman on a free transfer.
The 34-year-old has signed a two-year contract, with an option for a third, at Roots Hall.
Freedman, who finished last season on loan at Leeds, was told he was free to leave the Eagles by boss Neil Warnock after completing his testimonial year.
Meanwhile, the Blues have also snapped up Portsmouth midfielder Jean-Francois Christophe on a one-month loan deal.
The 21-year-old has spent the past two weeks on trial with the Blues and is delighted to move to Roots Hall.
"Southend is a good team to enjoy playing at and to show what I can do," Christophe told the club website.
"Harry Redknapp (Pompey boss) has said to me that he sees me as a holding midfielder and that this is the best way for me to develop."
