Southend teenager James Lawson has been rewarded for his impressive start to the season at Roots Hall with his first professional contract.
The 18-year-old striker has committed himself to the Shrimpers until the end of nest season.
Manager Steve Tilson told BBC Essex: "He's done really well since getting into the team and has worked hard.
"He's staying behind after training to do extra work and weights to build up his strength."
Tilson added: "He's doing all that can be asked of him."
