Southend United have signed former Millwall striker Leon Constantine on a non-contract basis, according to BBC Essex.
Constantine was on trial with the Blues during the summer but left for Rushden and Diamonds to try and earn a contract in Division Two.
The 25-year-old has had a scan on an injury which was thought to be a hernia but has turned out to be a minor groin problem.
He has been included in the squad for Saturday's match with Mansfield.
Meanwhile, Southend midfielder Jay Smith is making good progress after spending five months sidelined with a groin injury.
The 21-year-old made his competitive return for the Blues' reserves on Wednesday.
"Jay did well. He has been out of action for a long time now and he got through 45 minutes of play with no problems," reserve-team boss Steve Tilson told Southend's website.
Smith moved to Roots Hall from Aston Villa last season after a successful loan spell.
But he has not played for the first-team since a 1-0 defeat at Kidderminster at the start of March.
