Southampton full back Jon Otsemobor is hoping to earn a new contract that will keep him at St Mary's next season.

The 27-year-old signed a short-term deal in January after moving on a free transfer from Norwich City.

He has since made 17 appearances but knows he will face competition for a new deal from within the current squad.

"There's a lot of lads out of contract at the end of the season but we're all in the same boat and all want to do well," he told BBC Radio Solent.

"It's a club that's only going in one direction. Obviously everyone wants to be a part of that, but unfortunately we all can't be."

A late bid by for the play-offs by Alan Pardew's men ended last weekend.

The club incurred a 10-point penalty for entering administration before suffering a mediocre start to the season.

However, one of the most expensively assembled squads in the division are likely to start firm favourites for promotion next campaign.

Otsemobor added: "It's a club heading in the right direction and it's something I definitely want to be a part of."
