Southampton reveal plans for training ground

How Saints hope their proposed new training ground development may look

Southampton have unveiled plans to upgrade their training ground at Marchwood to Premier League standard.

Executive chairman Nicola Cortese told BBC Radio Solent that the planned revamp is being personally funded by owner Markus Liebherr.

Cortese said: "The work doesn't impact financially. We do this with our own funds, there's no bank involved and the club remains debt-free.

"We've reviewed our infrastructure and seen where we can improve."

Cortese added: "It was initially planned for a later stage, towards when we're closer to the Premier League.

"But we thought it makes financial sense to do it now and create a great training infrastructure, which will also benefit our academy."

New Forest District Council is set to consider the plans in mid-January.
