Saints complete Martin transfer

Pardew will look to nurture the talents of Aaron Martin

Southampton have completed the signing of Eastleigh's former England Schools defender Aaron Martin.

The 20-year-old penned an 18-month contract after impressing the Saints during a trial.

Eastleigh will received an undisclosed five-figure sum, plus appearance and sell-on increments.

Eastleigh director of football David Malone told BBC Radio Solent: "I'm delighted that Aaron has finally got his dream move to Saints."

Isle of Wight-born Martin was recommended to Saints by his manager at Eastleigh, the former Southampton striker Ian Baird.

Martin is a product of Itchen College in Southampton, from where he gained his England Schools recognition.

Malone added: "The deal has been a little bit protracted but it's been done at last, and now hopefully Aaron can go on to blossom with Southampton.

"It makes us at Eastleigh very proud to know that someone we've nurtured over the last few years, should go on to join a club like Saints. Hopefully there will be many more to come from this club, who go on to league futures.

"The money is not only a boost, but in fact will keep us afloat. There isn't a lot of money knocking around in non-league football, so this will really help us, particularly with some of our big plans for the future," Malone added.
