Saints drop Wetherall interest
Bradford defender David Wetherall used to play with Gordon Strachan at Leeds
Wetherall has been plagued by a groin injury
Southampton manager Gordon Strachan has pulled out of the proposed 1.5m transfer of his former Leeds team-mate David Wetherall.

The Bradford defender had been talking to Southampton about a possible move, but has been sidelined with a groin injury.

"I don't think David Wetherall will be coming to us," Southampton chairman Rupert Lowe told the club's official website.

"But we are still looking to strengthen and have a few things in the pipeline.

"We have made it clear we are looking to invest in the squad.

"We have made a start, with Paul Williams and Paul Telfer, but there is nothing more to report at the moment."

Wetherall played with Strachan at Elland Road from 1991 to 1995.
