Kelvin Langmead has been voted by BBC Radio Shropshire listeners as Shrewsbury Town player of the year.

"It's been a long, hard season that unfortunately ended in disappointment," said the 25-year-old defender after their 3-2 defeat by Morecambe.

"But personal accolades are always pleasing, and this is my silver lining.

"I've played a lot of games, and I think I've been a bit more consistent this season. Hopefully we can all come back stronger next year."

Town finished 12th in League Two, seven points off the play-off places.

Langmead has been a regular in the Shrewsbury side, scoring three times in 46 League and Cup appearances.

He joined Shrewsbury on loan from Preston in the 2004/05 season, at which time he was playing as a striker. But then manager Gary Peters saw Langmead's potential as a central defender and he has been a prominent figure at the back ever since.

The BBC Radio Shropshire award sees callers to the station's post-match phone-in asked for their man of the match. The weekly winners are counted to find out who wins the player of the year award.
