Shrewsbury sign Norwich striker Jamie Cureton on loan

Shrewsbury have signed Norwich striker Jamie Cureton on loan until the end of the season after lengthy negotiations.

"He has a scoring record as good as anyone," Shrews boss Paul Simpson told the club website.

Simpson's interest in the 34-year-old was first confirmed on BBC Radio Shropshire earlier this month.

Norwich boss Paul Lambert told the Canaries website: "With the form of our strikers, it makes sense for Jamie to get some games under his belt."

Cureton started his career at Norwich 18 years ago and had notable spells at Bristol Rovers, Reading, QPR, Swindon and Colchester before returning to Carrow Road in 2007.

He has scored 204 goals in 583 professional appearances but has only featured eight times this season.

Simpson said: "To be honest, I've been looking since Grant Holt left [for Norwich] in the summer, and more now since Omer Riza left and Nathan Elder went out on loan for the rest of the season [to AFC Wimbledon]."
