Shrewsbury sign Falkirk's Holden

Shrewsbury Town have completed the signing of defender Dean Holden on a two-year deal from Falkirk.

The 29-year-old started his career with Bolton Wanderers, before spells with Oldham and Peterborough. He moved to Falkirk in January 2007.

"He is a versatile player who can play across the back four," manager Paul Simpson told the club website.

Holden broke his leg playing for Falkirk against Celtic in January last year, but has now made a full recovery.

"I am hoping he will cement the right-back position and make it his own," added Simpson.

The arrival of Holden comes at a time when Falkirk are making changes following the appointment of Eddie May as their new manager.

Shrewsbury moved quickly to sign Holden after Darren Moss turned down the chance to sign a new contract with the club.

Town striker Omer Riza has signed a new one-year deal, but midfielder Marc Pugh has left the club by mutual consent, despite having a year left on his contract.
