Simpson hopeful of new midfielder

Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Simpson has set his sights on signing a midfielder before Saturday's home game against Darlington.

Simpson's quest to sign a midfielder has become a top priority after Kevin McIntyre's double broken leg, which has ruled him out for six weeks.

"I'm looking to get somebody in before the Darlington game," said Simpson.

"I won't be making any promises. I'm doing everything I possibly can," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"I want to bring somebody in to strengthen the squad in midfield. We're just going to have to wait and see what materialises."

Shrewsbury boss Paul Simpson has denied reports that they offered 50,000 for Macclesfield Town midfielder Terry Dunfield - and were turned down.

Simpson told BBC Radio Shropshire: "50,000? That's not true.

"Dunfield is one of many players I have an interest in but that's all it is at the moment."

Speculation about Dunfield's future with the Silkmen has increased after he was dropped for Macclesfield's 1-1 draw against Aldershot on Saturday in favour of Shrewsbury old boy Jamie Tolley.

Macclesfield manager Keith Alexander told his club website: "Jamie got his chance because Terry Dunfield has been subject to a lot of transfer speculation".
