Sheffield Wednesday target Hughes, Westcarr and Weston

Lee Hughes
Hughes has scored 43 goals during his two-year spell at Notts County

Sheffield Wednesday boss Alan Irvine has confirmed he has made an approach for Notts County's Lee Hughes and Brentford's Myles Weston.

Hughes, 34, has scored 10 goals this term while fellow striker Weston, 22, has netted just once in 30 appearances.

Irvine told BBC Radio Sheffield: "We are aware of them, and have made some tentative enquires."

League One Wednesday are also thought to be interested in capturing Magpies striker Craig Westcarr.

Like Hughes, Westcarr, 25, has scored 10 goals this season, and both are contracted to stay at Meadow Lane until 2012.

During the January transfer window, Wednesday have signed Gary Madine from Carlisle, Mark Reynolds from Motherwell, Plymouth's Reda Johnson and Leicester defender Michael Morrison.
