Watson fit for Owls season opener

Watson joined Wednesday from West Brom in 2007

Sheffield Wednesday club captain Steve Watson has confirmed he will be fit for their season opener against Burnley.

The 34-year-old was left out of the pre-season game against Wigan as a precautionary measure.

But he returned for Wednesday in a behind-closed-doors game against Bradford on Tuesday.

Watson told BBC Radio Sheffield: "Me and Jimmy Smith played an hour each and hopefully that proved to the gaffer that we are ready for Saturday."
