Owls fined for loan rule breach

Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday have been fined 2,000 after breaking Football League rules on loan players.

The Owls named six loan players in their squad for last month's 1-1 draw with Stoke City, when the rules only allow five.

But the club escaped a points deduction after the Football League followed the precedent set in 2006 when Leeds were fined for a similar offence.

It means the Owls remain a point above the Championship's relegation zone.
