Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Darryl Powell has left the club for American side Colorado Rapids, report BBC Radio Sheffield.
Powell has signed a contract with Major League Soccer side Colorado but is now awaiting a work permit and international clearance.
And the 32-year-old admits even if the deal to America collapses it is unlikely he'll return to Hillsborough following further talks with Owls manager Chris Turner.
"I spoke to Chris Turner, and he was pretty confident he would be able to get me the same money as I was on last season," said Powell.
"But then he came back to me and told me the board had said that was not possible.
"That really left me no option. I spoke to a couple of First Division clubs but didn't want to be in the situation where everyone's waiting."
