Wednesday land Owusu

Sheffield Wednesday have fended off competition from Crystal Palace to sign striker Lloyd Owusu.

The 25-year-old was available on a free transfer from Brentford and has agreed a three-year contract at Hillsborough.

Owls manager Terry Yorath was delighted to land Owusu, who scored 20 goals to help the Bees into the Division Two play-offs last season.

Yorath is looking forward to putting Owusu alongside Shefki Kuqi and Leon Knight in a new-look attack.

"Lloyd has come up through the divisions and scored goals wherever he has played," Yorath said.

"We watched him extensively last season and are delighted to be signing a player with such a good goalscoring pedigree."

Palace's former Wednesday boss Trevor Francis held talks with Owusu but has been forced to admit defeat in the race to sign him.
