Sheffield United have signed West Bromwich Albion's Joe Mattock and Aston Villa's Shane Lowry on loan until the end of the season.

Mattock, 20, who can play in midfield or defence, made his debut for Leicester as a 16-year-old in 2007, joining the Baggies in August 2009.

Defender Lowry, 21, who declared himself available for Australia, is yet to make his first-team Villa debut.

The duo will cover for the injured Chris Morgan and Nyron Nosworthy.

Blades boss Micky Adams told the club website: "Joe is young and enthusiastic and gives us competition for places.

"He's naturally left footed and having him here will help us climb the table."

Mattock made 29 appearances for West Brom during last season's promotion campaign but has not featured in the Premier League.

His parent club do not have an option to recall Mattock during his loan spell.

Former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Lowry has spent much of his Villa career out on loan, making 24 appearances during spells at Plymouth Argyle and Leeds United.

Speaking about Lowry's arrival, Adams added: "He is young, enthusiastic, fits the profile we are looking for and I have watched him recently for Villa reserves.

"He had a good loan spell at Leeds United last season so coming to a club like ours won't faze him."
